We are committed to driving sustainable practices and understand that our supply chain plays an integral role in delivering value to the local communities you serve.
Not only are we dedicated to decreasing the environmental impact we have throughout our activities, we understand that our social impact on the local community, as well as our own people, is hugely important to ensure that we deliver the best possible service to exceed your expectations.
Take a look at our case studies below to find out more about what we do to support our social value and sustainability policies
Mental Health & Wellbeing
Each year in England, 1 in 4 people experience a mental health issue, and 1 in 6 report anxiety or depression weekly. Mental health issues are rising, with NHS services treating a record 3.8 million people last year. In construction, over 50% of UK builders reported mental health struggles in 2023, with 82% citing work-related stress. Alarmingly, male construction workers are three times more likely to die by suicide than those in other industries.
What IBMG has done?
With over 2,200 colleagues, IBMG values its people and communities, striving to offer the best local service. Recognising the growing need for mental health support, IBMG is committed to prevention, promotion, support, and creating an environment for positive change.
In line with the Thriving at Work report, we’ve trained 111 employees as Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAs), led by a dedicated Group Lead.
Our Group Lead also supports MHFAs, managers, and the People Team with mental health-related concerns. We focus MHFA communication around key awareness events, with internal campaigns and resources on our intranet. A confidential support line and online wellness hub offer help with mental, physical, and financial wellbeing for employees and their families. We champion diversity and have launched a “Cost of Living Package,” including a £500 winter payment, employee discounts, and a special purchase scheme for energy-saving products – benefiting over 2,000 employees.

Making a Difference
MHFAs play a key role in reducing stigma and supporting colleagues. One example: Dylan, an MHFA, helped a distressed member of the public who had attempted suicide. He calmly provided immediate support, engaged with empathy, and followed up by contacting emergency services – actions praised by authorities.
Looking Ahead
There’s significant potential to further embed mental health awareness and support across IBMG and the wider community, continuing to create a culture where people feel safe, supported, and empowered.

Fundraising & Volunteering
IBMG is committed to supporting our employees, local communities, and the environment. Through our Social Value plan, we empower staff to make a positive difference via fundraising and volunteering.
Teenage Cancer Trust Partnership
For over a decade, IBMG has supported the Teenage Cancer Trust, raising over £300,000 through events like bake sales, raffles, abseils, and more..
The Merchant Mission
Colleagues from Parker, Chandlers, and Fairalls won Teenage Cancer Trust’s “Mission Unstoppable” challenge, raising nearly £15,000 in 10 weeks through creative fundraising including a gala dinner, dog walk, darts competition, and Christmas events.

Driving Challenge
Two Parker employees drove a 23-year-old car from Uckfield to Land’s End, John O’Groats, and back—raising over £4,800 for Teenage Cancer Trust in just 4 days.
Annual Golf Day
Colleagues and suppliers came together for a charity golf day, complete with a supplier exhibition and auction, raising significant funds thanks to generous donations and strong support across the business.
Hands of Hope Volunteering
IBMG supports Hands of Hope, a local charity using nature and nutrition to combat loneliness and improve wellbeing. Located on a heritage garden site in Kent, it delivers community-based education, food poverty initiatives, and rural skills training—especially for marginalised groups across Rother, Hastings, and West Kent.
